Most of the times people on internet say to make site user friendly to gain worth in the eyes of people as well as in search engines. I ask a simple question, why not to make site search engine friendly at the same time as it will ensure crawlers of search engines more easiness to collect data from your site. There is no search engine which gives any guidelines against it then why not to focus on this aspect as well? Some basic things on your pages can give your better rankings and even more worth without deteriorating any SEO guidelines. Here are 10 basic things to do on your site pages and are termed as On-Page SEO rules.

1. Title Tag

First and the most important thing to start with each page of your site is title tag. It gives the idea of what about the page is. Once you have selected the keyword for a particular page put it in Google or any other search engines to check how top 10 sites have used this keyword in their title tag. It will make easier for you to know the prominence feature of your desired keyword.

2. Heading Tags

Heading tags have always a vital part to play for describing your page content to search engine crawlers. H1, H2, H3 and H4 have to be in right section for explaining things in that particular portion of page. H1 is for the whole story title and other sub Hs also have same value.

3. Meta Description

Meta description is obviously there to describe your page or say to summarize your page. It is shown by the search engines as the page description for visitors so it severs as a definite factor to bring them to your site or throw them to your competitors. To make your description captivate enough for visitors, ensure proper blending of keywords in it.

4. Use of anchor text for internal links

Making a good internal linking system of your site pages is very important. While developing these internal links, be very sure to use proper keywords as anchor text for targeting each of the pages.

5. HTML Validation

Will you like bots to get stuck on some of your page coding and run away without crawling the whole page? Sounding no will come from your side, so what to do? Answer is simple, make your pages simple and do not set any traps for bots rather make pages HTML validated. Always avoid to have broken links on your pages as bots never like to go into vacant street.

6. Keyword Density

Keyword density on a page is the most influencing factor for search engine rankings. Placing your keywords in the right place and using proper heading tags for them ensures sky rocketing results. At the same time keep in mind, overuse of keywords can mess your search engine rankings very easily so be positive in the placement of keywords in your content. After all content has to make difference and if it is keyword rich then what can be better than it?

7. Images Tags

Do you use images in your pages? Of course you should include images but ensure to give “alt” tags to your images. Use keywords in these tags and try to give words from your title tag to these alt tags. This helps to gain better position in Google images and the emerging role of “image SEO” will definitely sned some useful traffic to your site.

8. Navigation

I have seen a lot of sites using scripting navigations to make their sites more charming. Frankly saying, I do not like this approach as java scripts or similar things some times become difficult for bots to crawl so why to hurt bots on your pages. I will like to have anchor text based simple navigation that is easy to read out for bots.

9. Sitemaps

One of the must have things on your site. All major search engine especially Google love sitemaps as it makes them easy to find things on your site.

10. Avoid Blackhat Things

Last thing not to do on your site is Blackhat SEO methods. Worse step in this regard is the same color of your text and background. Another measure is to avoid over use of keywords in your content. Things like these are strongly prohibited in search engines guidelines and following these parameters will help to maintain good rankings for your site.

Very good list. These also improve the page for the human visitor as well. I would add an 11th point – spell check your work. I’m not sure if google frowns on spelling errors and typos, but why risk it.
On your seventh point, you wrote “sned” instead of “shed”. :)
