Why you should get a dedicated IP address?

There are two types of web hosting plans for a domain name. These are knows as dedicated IP address hosting and name based hosting. What is the difference among two? Name based hosting is one in which many domains are hosted on the same IP address and dedicated IP address hosting is one on which only one site is hosted and that IP address totally belongs to that domain name.
Do you have a dedicated IP address hosting plan?
If you wan to check whether your domain is on a dedicated IP or your web host has just showed and have not provided you a dedicated IP; you should enter that IP (provided by your web host) in address bar like this. http://67.228.198.227/ If you land on your website, it means you have a dedicated IP and if you do not land on your website, it means you have been provided a shared IP address.
Why you should get a dedicated IP?
Most important factor involved in this issue is of search engine crawling. If you have a shared IP address and any of the hundreds sites hosted on that IP, deliberately or inadvertently gets banned by search engine, it will result a ban on all domains associated with that IP as search engines do not ban domains but they ban IPs. Now with the passage of time and efficient use of technologies, search engines are becoming good at just banning that particular site but not the whole IP. Anyway if we are not sure about search engines crawling policies, why to take such big risk of being banned by them.
I must say this is a cheap insurance policy against such big threat of being thrown out of search engines and entirely loosing your online presence.
